GMO ingredients

Are we not allowed to carry on a conversation about GMO ingredients? I asked a question this morning, and was very glad to get a reply by a Kellogg's representative so quickly. However, I wanted to continue the conversation. But I noticed that the question was immediately closed and archived.

What I wanted to add was that If GMO products are so safe, why is it that companies such as yours fought the labeling initiative in California, where they were asking that GMO be listed as an ingredient when applicable? And, if so safe, why are many other countries banning GMO farming as well as requiring food labels state when GMOs are being used. It seems that U.S. manufacturers care more about their bottom line than about what consumers want. They want to know if the products they are consuming are genetically modified. That is not asking too much. Thank you though for your answer, because you have indirectly answered my question as to whether Kellogg's uses GMO ingredients. It seems to me that if you weren't using them, that you would say so. Since this is the case, I will no longer be buying any Kellogg's products.

  • I’m anxious
Getting more and more information about GMO's, and was really hoping California passed prop 37, but they didn't. It is downright scary what is happening to anyone or anything consuming GMO's. If Kellogg's is not willing to share their content willingly, I will have to stop purchasing their products as well. Ensuring your customers are safe should be paramount to all, especially to ensuring your pockets are filled.

  • It seems that it would be in Kellogg's best interest to stop using GMOs, even if they think they're safe, because ultimately, their customers do not want them. I can imagine how their profits would soar if they could honestly state that their products are non-GMO !!

As for Prop 37 failing in California, it was very close 47% voted yes. It failed because Monsanto and other big corporations spent $46 million dollars trying to prove that GMOs are safe. My question though, if GMOs are so safe, why are companies using them afraid to label? And, why would Monsanto patent a product, then hide its use? Seems like they would be proud to label.

  • I’m thankful for Morning Star farms. A better choice!
    1
Many people who buy Morning Star Farms products are doing so for some purpose of "health". As such, can you PLEASE favorably consider giving your consumers the entire considerations to these products? Are the vegetable entrees made with GMO vegetables? Are they gluten free or gluten reduced? Are they made with fructose corn syrups? etc...

William- It has become increasingly difficult to maintain non-biotech sourcing of the soy proteins, as for the other ingredients, because of the drift pollen from nearby biotech crops and the possibility of cross-contamination, even certified organic foods can no longer be guaranteed 100% biotech free.

We recognize that some Morningstar Farms consumers may prefer foods that do not contain biotech ingredients. We currently offer Morningstar Farms® Breakfast Patties Made with Organic Soy.
    • Just because you offer Morningstar Farms Breakfast patties does not mean that Morningstar Consumers do not want the rest of the produce to be non-genetically modified. If Kellogg's can offer the breakfast patties made with Organic Soy then how is it that they cannot do the same for the rest of their produce? I love MorningStar, but If I cannot know what I am consuming and cannot eat REAL food, not fake biotech food, then I will have to discontinue buying.

Can you please change Morningstar Farms products from GMO to non-GMO? I would greatly appreciate, as would many other vegetarians/vegans would. Please take this into consideration. I would much rather pay more money for a higher-quality product, than one of lesser.

I agree, Morningstar is not healthy as long as GMO ingredients are used. but soy is also not healthy for women. It is linked to breast cancer, whether organic or not. Is there any reason another organic ingredient could be used in place of the soy? And as a side note, just because it is labeled as organic does not necessarily mean that it is not GMO. If it is certified organic it is not supposed to be but products are not checked for GMOs.

  • THREE REQUESTS:
    1. I buy Vegan Grillers and would like to have a vegan option for all your products. They are a mainstay in a vegetarian diet.
    2. I deserve to know what is in the food I buy. Please label your products GMO or non-GMO.
    3. Please consider moving to organic ingredients in all your products.
You have an opportunity to become the leader in the industry. More and more consumers want healthy, non-GMO, organic, vegan food. With your great product line, you are strategically placed to fill that place in the market.
    • Jessica (Official Rep) March 15, 2013 13:29
K- Thanks for enjoying our Grillers® burgers! We appreciate your thoughts, please know we take them seriously and will forward them along to the appropriate team.
    • Recently Whole Foods stated that by 2018 they would label every product they sell as containing GMO or all non-GMO ingredients. Kelloggs has a window of opportunity to become a leader in the food industry. This is a movement that is not going away.

If Kelloggs waits, consumers will find other products that provide the label and contents they want. Everything changes. Flow with this change rather than resisting it. Give consumers what they want or the consumer will look elsewhere. Be a leader.

Genetically engineered Bt corn is an EPA registered pesticide. Every cell of this corn plant produces its own built-in Bt toxin. It kills by exploding the stomachs of insects who eat it. It's pollen is killing the larvae of monarch butterflies and their habitat is being destroyed by the use of glyphosate herbicide. Bt toxin may be the major cause for the epidemic of leaky gut syndrome which began in the mid nineties. It is also toxic to the liver and kidneys. GE seed is coated with Neonicotinoid pesticide. Neonicotinoids are taken up by plants and moved to all their tissues, including the nectar on which bees feed. It has been tied to the die-off of much of the worlds honey bee population. Honey bees are a vital link in food production because they are needed for the pollination of many crops. Take action. Boycott Kellogg Corp. and other food manufacturers who oppose the labeling of GMOs. To find out more go to GMO FREE USA on face book.

Why can't you support GMO labeling instead of spending money to keep your consumers in the dark? Why can't you encourage organic and non-GMO farmers by seeking their grains instead of the unhealthy genetically modified ones designed to grant Monsanto and other seed and chemical companies huge profits at the expense of the environment and future of farming? I am a shareholder and request this change in your practices.

  • Here is the answer about GMO. It is not safe and I just recently viewed a movie friends gave me to watch on what it is and how it is in our foods.

If Kellogg is using OMG product in their foods, then we need to stop eating them. GMO has affects on animals and humans. This movie goes into detail on how it is harming us.

All suppliers have to do is stop using product called Roundup manufactured by Monsanto that is used on their crops. There are other products not treated with Roundup they can use.

GMO is causing Alzheimer’s, Cancer, Autism, Obesity and the list goes on and on. See for yourself what it is about and how it is affecting animals and humans.

Since Kellogg has my link blocked I am not able to post the direct link to youtube. Besides you will feel safer going to youtube and searching instead of clicking a link on this blog.

Go to Youtube and search: Genetic Roulette Full Movie . You will need to look for the video that shows "A Road To Healing Cancer, Feature Presentation" on the main screen.

For years, I have purchased Kellogg's Frosted Rice Krispies Cereal and ate it daily. I now have to give up something I love because there is no proof there it isn't a Non-GMO Verified product.

If Kellogg isn’t using OMG products, then they need to be putting the Non-GMO Project Standard on the label of their products. They are only hurting their business by not showing proof on their packaging.

Why would they not want to keep us alive to continue to buy their delicious products. Heath is a big issue these days, not just in the US but around the world. If their employees are eating their products and they aren't non-gmo, then they will have employee illness on the rise including health care costs.

You can also find a list of Non-GMO foods to follow when shopping for Non-GMO foods, by googling "Non-GMO Foods List" in the google search engine.

Kellogg: If you are using GMO products in your food, then please stop now and save your company from it's losses. This issue has gone viral on the Internet on facebook, youtube and other websites and blogs.. Make good on your product by not using GMO products. If your food is good then consumers will buy it. I buy a lot of your product but I want to live long enough to see my grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. I want them to be healthy and not treated as Lab Rats which is all Monsanto is doing. Find another supplier that offers NON GMO product to make your products and keep America and other countries living longer to continue buying your product. Keep your employees well and safe. Life is short enough without being poisoned on a daily basis all day long.

My family will no longer buy your product or any other products from other manufacturers that sell goods with GMO in it. Come clean, change your ways and put that label on your product in the Organic section of the stores.

  • By the way, anyone that wants to stop using GMO filled foods and have cupboards and refrigerator full of food with GMO, can take the product back to the store, including opened product and get a refund. If they refuse to refund your money then go to their corporate head quarters and file a complaint asking for a full refund.

  • I can sympathize with Kellogg's to a point. I can understand it must be difficult to get pure non-GMO supplies in this country. But there are things that can be done. How about Kelloggs raising their own supply crops? Hire people well versed in natural farming to run the operations? There are companies out there that do that. In the long run it could actually save money and increase sales. I was raised on Kellogg's cereals, but I don't buy them any more because of the GMO ingredients. It would be a bold move, but it would be one welcomed by an increasing number of consumers. I would rather have cereal that started out with good ingredients and were minimally contaminated rather than a cereal where the whole crop is contaminated... Don't give in Kellogg's, give it your BEST shot! Give US your best shot!
